The Tridiots road tripped up to San Francisco for the Tri California Alcatraz Challenge. The race consists of a 1.5-mile swim from a boat just off Alcatraz to Crissy Field, followed by a 7-mile run to the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge and back.
We went to the Sports Basement in the Presidio to check in and attend the mandatory pre-race meeting on Saturday afternoon. Then we wandered around and went to an early dinner at Fisherman's Wharf. Sunday morning we met at Crissy Field, set up our transition areas, and then took busses over to the boat dock. We spent most of the boat ride discussing what we should aim at and worrying about the water temperature. We jumped off the boat just off the eastern end of Alcatraz and none of us did figure out where we should be aiming. Megan won her age group and was the ninth fastest female in the race. After the race we road tripped home. Not bad for a weekend adventure.
